Calling all musicians!

Calling all musicians!

On behalf of the Director of Music and I, please may I invite musicians to attend our forthcoming recruitment weekend. The past year has been very successful for National Band and we look forward to building upon this over the next 12 months.

As always, we are looking to recruit drum, mallet, bugle, brass and woodwind players who are of a good standard and are proficient at drill.

Please may I draw your attention to the fact that, with the aim of reinstating a bugle section to National Band, we now run a bugle school. The bugle school runs alongside the National Band, on the band weekends, and is open to beginners and novices who may wish to progress to this section of the National Band.

Next year’s annual concert will be at St Mary’s Church, Hinckley. We will also be performing again at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and holding a 5-day tour at the end of next Summer. Dates for the next band season can be found below.

We would love to welcome you to National Band and/or the bugle school. Therefore, I encourage you to attend our recruitment weekend with a view to becoming part of the National Band family.

If you have any questions or require further information, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Regards
Lindsay Maclure
Adjutant CLCGB NB

Tom West RIP Obituary

It is with deepest sympathy to announce the passing of Tom West, who passed away on 12th July after a long struggle with cancer.

Tom's son Andy emailed to advise of the sad news.

"He initially joined what was then The Church Lads’ Brigade in Sheffield in the 1950’s.

Following 22 years serving in the army, and as an active member of the congregation at St Mary’s Parish Church in Chepstow, he went on to assist Elaine Huson, Kevin & Trudie Higgs and Chris Wheeler in forming 3655 Lower Wye Valley Company in the 1980’s.

At this time there were also strong companies at Caldicot and St Hilda’s, Griffithstown.  Chepstow had a close friendship with the Harrow Company in those days too, this was through connections with the late Des & Jean Carter.  He was very involved in Brigade matters, never slow to spot the opportunity for a fundraiser, and always proud to wear Brigade uniform.

I am not sure with whom he would have dealt most recently, but he was a close friend of the late Dave Harris & Mike Syrett.

His funeral service will be held on Wednesday 8th August, 2:00pm at St Mary’s Parish Church, Chepstow prior to cremation at The Forest of Dean Crematorium, 3:30pm.  Family flowers only, donations for St. David’s Hospice Care may be sent to Philip Blatchly & Son, 5 Station Road, Chepstow, Mon. NP16 5PB."
