Duke of Edinburgh’s Award
Begin Your DofE Adventure with the CLCGB
Looking for a challenge that will help you build confidence, learn new skills, make lifelong friends, and create unforgettable memories? The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE), delivered through the Church Lads’ and Church Girls’ Brigade (CLCGB), offers young people the chance to step outside their comfort zone and discover what they are truly capable of.
Whether you’re volunteering in your community, developing a new talent, improving your fitness, or taking part in an exciting expedition, the DofE is a rewarding journey of personal growth and achievement. Through the support of experienced CLCGB leaders, you’ll be encouraged every step of the way as you work towards your Bronze, Silver, or Gold Award.
Who Can Take Part?
The DofE is open to young people aged 14 to 24, with different entry ages for each level:
- Bronze Award – from the school year in which you turn 14.
- Silver Award – from the school year in which you turn 15.
- Gold Award – from age 16.
- All awards must be completed before your 25th birthday.
DofE Sections
To achieve a DofE Award, participants complete activities across a number of sections designed to develop character, skills, and resilience.
Volunteering
Make a positive difference by helping others in your community. This could include supporting a local charity, helping with younger sections within the CLCGB, fundraising, or assisting with community projects.
Physical
Improve your fitness and wellbeing through a sport or physical activity of your choice. The focus is on personal progress and commitment.
Skills
Develop an existing talent or learn something completely new, such as photography, cooking, music, first aid, public speaking, or IT skills. [dofe.org]
Expedition
Plan, train for, and complete a team expedition. You’ll learn navigation, teamwork, camp craft, leadership, and problem-solving while exploring the outdoors.
Residential (Gold Award Only)
Gold participants complete a shared residential experience away from home, working alongside people they do not already know for five days and four nights.
How Long Does It Take?
The minimum completion time depends on the Award level:
- Bronze: Minimum of 6 months.
- Silver: Minimum of 6 months (12 months if entering directly without Bronze).
- Gold: Minimum of 12 months (18 months if entering directly without Silver).
Why Complete Your DofE with the CLCGB?
As a Licensed Organisation, the CLCGB provides a supportive environment where young people can complete every section of their DofE programme. Participants benefit from experienced leadership, volunteering opportunities, skills development, expedition training, and the chance to share their journey with friends who are equally committed to achieving their goals.
