The CLCGB gather to honour the fallen
Every Church Lads’ and Church Girls’ Brigade unit from across the United Kingdom supports their local community during the national act of remembrance, by leading local parades with their band, laying wreaths, marching and spending time to reflect upon the sacrifices made by so many in conflicts at home and abroad, both historical and in more recent times.
National Cenotaph Parade
A contingent of 30 members and leaders of the CLCGB, drawn from across the UK, converged upon London to participate in the solemn act of remembrance. Their purpose: to pay respect and honour to all those who have fought and fallen in conflicts past and present.
The day unfolded beneath a bright, sunny sky. The CLCGB first gathered on Horse Guards Parade before moving through to Whitehall. The atmosphere of poignant anticipation was broken as Big Ben’s first chime of 11:00 resonated across the capital, marking the start of the ceremonial two minutes of silence. This profound moment of quiet reflection was initiated by the deep sound of a cannon blast, and closed by the mournful, timeless notes of the Last Post.
Following the silence, the laying of the wreaths commenced at the Cenotaph, led by HM King Charles III and the assembled dignitaries. A short service, conducted by Archbishop-designate Sarah Mullally, then preceded the grand march-past.
Over 10,000 participants formed a unified parade, filing passed the Cenotaph in a dignified procession to lay their own wreaths and offer their deepest respects. The salute was taken by HRH Prince Edward, the Duke of Edinburgh.
The event concluded as the parade dispersed back onto Horse Guards Parade, leaving an indelible memory of a moving and momentous occasion.
As ever, the CLCGB members and officers represented their organisation with distinction. Their smartness, reverence, and impeccable marching made the entire organisation justly proud of their contribution to this national act of remembrance.
