The first of this year’s courses took place over the weekend of the 13th to the 15th of March. It was decided that we would run the courses at the Whitemoor Lakes activity centre located next to the NMA. This provided a central location with excellent facilities allowing participants to fully engage with the programme and with one another.

A total of 12 young people attended the course, representing Companies from London, Tintern, Manchester, and Longridge. This broad mix of locations provided valuable opportunities for participants to share experiences, build new friendships, and gain a wider understanding of the Brigade beyond their own local context. A key element of the training.

The course aims to equip Junior Leaders with the skills, confidence, and understanding needed to support their Companies effectively and to grow as positive role models. Core aims included:

  • Developing leadership and teamwork skills
  • Building confidence in communication and instruction
  • Encouraging responsibility and initiative
  • Reinforcing Brigade values and appropriate behaviour
  • Preparing Junior Leaders to support younger members
  • Become a valuable member of their company

The programme combined practical leadership activities with interactive teaching sessions.

Training covered leadership styles, effective communication, teamwork, and problem‑solving, with an emphasis on learning through experience.

The weekend was very successful, with excellent engagement throughout the weekend. Participants showed noticeable growth in confidence, maturity, and willingness to take part. Feedback from the training team highlighted strong teamwork, positive attitudes, and a high level of commitment from the Junior Leaders.
