The second Junior Leaders course took place over the weekend of 10–12 July at Whitemoor Lakes Activity Centre. The weekend focused on Taking Groups Away, helping Junior Leaders develop the skills and confidence to support Brigade camps, residentials and trips.

Training covered:

  • Planning and organising residentials and camps
  • Setting aims and objectives
  • Delegating roles and responsibilities
  • Leading groups safely away from home
  • Working effectively as a leadership team
  • Risk awareness and practical planning

Alongside the training, participants enjoyed a range of activities that put these skills into practice. Despite the hot weather, spirits remained high, with sailing providing the perfect opportunity to cool down. The Nightline course challenged participants to communicate and work together, while the Traverse course tested confidence, teamwork and resilience.

The weekend also included a visit to the National Memorial Arboretum, where Junior Leaders reflected on the Brigade’s heritage and remembered the 16th Battalion, King’s Royal Rifle Corps.

The course was a great success, with excellent engagement throughout the weekend. It was encouraging to see our Junior Leaders growing in confidence, developing their leadership skills and preparing to support future Brigade camps and residentials.
