One of CLCGBs Young Leaders Scott Kendrew of St Mary’s Beverley recently took part in the National Fish & Chip Awards (Young Fish Fryer of the Year).  Scott came 8th which was a huge achievement and we are all very proud of him.

Below is Scott’s description of the challenge.

“I had such a great experience going in for the young fish fryer of the year 2025, I got to meet so many great people in the industry and work alongside a few of them. The best part about the whole competition was pushing my skills to the next level and of course going on the TV, on BBC Look North.

From the York press, “Representing the best upcoming talent is a group of 12 finalists, all aged 25 or under with a minimum of six months’ frying experience – who have caught the attention of the judging panel for their sound understanding of how to cook fish and chips consistently well.”

A very hard competition consisting of 3 rounds. Round one was 15 questions ranging from 4 word answers to 150 work answers all about the fish and chips industry. Round 2 was a zoom call of us frying fish and chips and answering a further 4 questions. The final round was a 3 hour shop visit where 2 of the judges came and watched us work.

Here’s a few words from the owner of Millers Fish and Chips, Nick said: “Me and the whole team are beyond proud of Scott. The hard work that he has put in to get to this stage within the competition is a testament to what Millers stands for.”

Overall the experience was fantastic, reaching top 8 in the country is such a great achievement and I am very proud of myself”
